Stone Problems & Solutions

There are many factors that cause the destruction of natural stone and marble.

Some are:

The biggest culprit is that once the stone is installed, it must be properly cleaned and sealed. Not using the right process can cause:

Cracking and Buckling
Cracking and buckling of your stone is caused by using an oil-based or film-creating substance, which can be found in most commercial waxes and polishes
Staining
Waxing will also trap moisture, speeding up the oxidation process and damaging the grout causing browning, yellowing or staining. Moisture in the air can lead to oxidation within the stone causing a deep tough stain.
Polishing
Re-crystallization is a chemical and heat polishing process that hardens the top layer of marble and quickly restores the stone’s shine. However, this process can cause the marble to become brittle and can actually burn and blister the stone floors.
A dirty mop or just plain water is doing more harm than good. And, a cleaner with excessive acidic or alkaline qualities can actually stain the floor. Without any treatment at all, stone floors can become scratched and dull.
